Hello!
My name is J. Bradley
Materick and I first want to thank you for taking the time to read this
information. PCT for Pets is a not-for-profit organization that I created in order to complete a simple mission: starting in March, 2004, I will hike the entire length of the 2650-mile Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) with my newly adopted dog, Banner, and we will use this adventure to raise awareness and support to benefit pets waiting for adoption in animal shelters nationwide. Of course, since PCT for Pets is composed of just myself and Banner, it will require a tremendous effort and the help of many people to fulfill this mission. We hope you are among those who are willing to support us on this charitable journey! This web site is designed to answer the question, "WHY?" Why would I want to walk more than 2500 miles from Mexico to Canada? Why do I feel the need to help shelter animals? And why am I sitting here at my computer learning how to build a web site when I could be outside running in the sunshine with Banner? Well,
in fact, Banner is the
answer. In September, 2003, I adopted this 3-year-old completely
unidentifiable (but very cute!) mutt from the Adirondak Humane Society
shelter in Plattsburgh, New York. This decision has radically
altered my life in a number of ways, and I am extremely thankful for
these positive changes. In searching for a way to express my
gratitude that an animal shelter existed to care for
Banner until I arrived to adopt him, I struck upon the PCT for Pets
idea.
This
site tells our story...mine and Banner's. If you find this
story compelling...if you can connect with it in some way...perhaps you
will consider a donation to PCT
for Pets (Click Make a
Donation to learn
how your donation will benefit
shelters and shelter animals). It
will
lighten our steps along the trail to know that we have the support of
so many people behind us...
